Two Budget Variants because of Bulgaria’s EU Entry

April 26th, 2006

There will be two variants of budget 2007 because of the different scenarios for Bulgaria’s EU entry. The first of them is made to be applied if the country joins the EU on January 1, 2007, and the other one will come into force is case Bulgaria’s EU accession is delayed, said Deputy Finance Minister Lyubomir Datzov. He takes part in a discussion under the motto: The scenarios for Bulgaria’s EU membership and their effect on public finances, investment medium and economic growth.
Each of the two budget variants envisages several possibilities of a budget deficit. The most pessimistic variant envisages a budget deficit of 3.1% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and it will come true if all the demands for tax alleviations are fulfilled.
The budget variants will be submitted to the coalition council which is to adopt one of them.
